Folliculitis

Description

Infection of 1 or more of the pockets from which hair grows. These pockets are called follicles.

Overview

Folliculitis is infection of 1 or more of the pockets from which hair grows. These pockets are called follicles.

Symptoms

Small, white-headed pimples appear around the hair follicles. They may itch or be painful. Bad infections can cause permanent hair loss and scarring.

Treatments

Mild cases often clear on their own. Antibiotics or other medicines may be needed for bad cases.
