May 31, 2007
COUMADIN/WARFARIN MANAGEMENTMiddletown — Middlesex Hospital will sponsor a presentation, entitled, “Coumadin and Warfarin: What You Need to Know,” on Thursday, June 14, from 6 to 8 p.m., in the North One Meeting Room (located on the first floor of the hospital). The talk is intended to help educate those using these blood thinners, their family members or other caregivers, about the safe use of these medications. The following topics will be covered:
- How Coumadin and Warfarin work
- Why patients on the drug need to be aware of their diet and interactions of other drugs while using Coumadin or Warfarin
- The importance of regular blood monitoring
- Other Coumadin and Warfarin resources
The blood-thinning drugs Coumadin and Warfarin are widely used to prevent and treat blood clots that can lead to strokes. But many people who take these drugs find them difficult to use in the proper way.
Speakers will be Peg Kraus, R.Ph., a pharmacist from Middlesex Hospital, and Katherine Schneider, M.D., the Hospital’s director of community medicine.
Admission is free and the event is open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. To register for the presentation, call (860) 358-8856.
