Shoreline Kids Safety Day

Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Center will host its annual "Kids Safety Day" on the grounds of the center, Route 153 in Essex, from noon until 3 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The day will showcase a variety of presenters and be filled with exhibits that will focus on ways to keep children healthy and safe, including:

  • Free child DNA kits
  • “Mad Science” demonstrations
  • Wind Over Wings wildlife rehabilitation and animal rescue will showcase several birds of prey
  • LIFE STAR helicopter (weather conditions permitting)
  • A “Glow Germ” test, provided by the Middlesex Hospital Infection Control Department, that demonstrates proper handwashing techniques
  • Gun safety
  • Boating safety
  • Traffic safety
  • Bus safety
  • Water safety
  • Lead safety
  • Railroad safety
  • Fitness for kids demonstrations by Shoreline Fitness
  • Disaster ground searches
  • FEMA
  • A special robot used by bomb squads
  • Smoking prevention
  • Emergency services and vehicles, including fire, ambulance and police
  • Middlesex Hospital Rehabilitation and Hand Therapy
  • Poison control
  • University of Connecticut Agricultural Division will provide education on poisonous plants

There will also be a roving magician, clowns, face painting, a moonwalk, climbing wall and refreshments. Family-friendly tours of the medical facility itself will also be available throughout the day. For more information on the event, call (860) 358-3755.
