Stroke Education Seminar Available
April 07, 2006
Stroke is the leading cause of long-term disability and is superceded only by heart disease and cancer as the most frequent cause of death in the United States. An estimated 700,000 strokes, an average of one every 45 seconds, occur every year. There is a death directly attributable to stroke every three minutes.
As disturbing as these statistics are, there is reason for optimism. Treatments are available that can minimize or even reverse the impact of stroke, but time is critical as there is only a three-hour window of opportunity to treat before the damage is permanent. With greater than sixty percent of all stroke patients getting help as a result of someone witnessing a change in their ability to function, people of all ages should know how to quickly identify the signs and symptoms of stroke and understand the importance of seeking immediate medical attention.
Middlesex Hospital is dedicated to improving stroke outcomes, and as part of an ongoing initiative offers a free one-hour community stroke education seminar for any group wishing to learn how they can lessen the impact of stroke.
To book a presentation, contact Brad Fowler, Middlesex Hospital Community Stroke Education Coordinator at 860-344-6440 or email Brad_Fowler@midhosp.org.
