Mission
The Middlesex Hospital Cancer Center exists to provide the highest quality of cancer care possible within a community health system. Care is provided at multiple sites and is characterized by measurable success and excellence in clinical outcomes, coordination of care, and customer service. The scope of the Cancer Center Program includes prevention, diagnosis, treatment, clinical research, survivorship, and palliation in both inpatient and ambulatory settings.Cancer Center Annual Report 2009
Vision
The Middlesex Hospital Cancer Center will be the cancer care provider of choice throughout Middlesex County. Our team of physicians and other health care providers will deliver compassionate and well-coordinated care offering clinically expert, technologically superior, easily accessible, personalized, comprehensive cancer services, and close to home. Cancer care must and will be individualized to address the physical, educational, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of the person and family coping with cancer.Cancer Center Annual Report 2009
Values
The staff of the Cancer Center recognizes and endorses the following values:- Excellence in cancer care is a primary goal of the Cancer Center. This goal is continuously pursued through quality initiatives and data-driven performance improvement.
- Compassion is the hallmark of the Cancer Center. It is demonstrated through respect for patients, family members, and health care team members. Mutual support of one another enhances our care and our professional growth.
- Coordination between patients and their providers is the foundation of cancer care. The Cancer Center team extends beyond the Cancer Center to include community-based providers, home care, clergy, and integrative medicine practitioners as well as palliative and hospice care providers. Every provider is committed to an individualized and integrated plan of care, seamless continuity of care, and honest and clear communication among all team members.
- Participation in decision making by the patient and family is anticipated, encouraged, and supported. Family centered care is our guiding principle. The Cancer Center will make every effort to address the needs of the patient, family, and significant others, utilizing effective education, honest and unambiguous communication techniques, and emotional support.
