Stages of Success

Becoming an ex-smoker is a process. Admitting that you have a problem with smoking and seeking help are difficult steps to take, as is deciding to talk to a smoking intervention counselor. However, they are the most important steps you can take to improve your health and your family's health.

What are the stages?

Stage 1

Thinking about stopping in the next 6 months

Stage 2

Seriously considering stopping in the next month

Stage 3

Already stopped and MAY not start again

Stage 4

Already stopped and WILL NOT start again

Regardless of where you are in the stages, always remember:

  • Be patient with yourself
  • Be proud of your progress
  • The craving will end in a few minutes whether or not you smoke
